Exhibit C — Priesthood, Death, and Inheritance#

This exhibit preserves the technical case behind one of the study’s most concentrated legal movements: the promised ruler from Judah does not become an Aaronic priest by erasing Levi; Scripture supplies a prior and oath-bound priesthood after the order of Melchizedek. The refuge law then places the death of the high priest beside return to possession, while Hebrews places the death of Christ beside the promise of eternal inheritance. These relationships are not collapsed into one mechanism. Their strength lies in the fact that Scripture repeatedly places priesthood, death, release, inheritance, heirship, and continuing life in the same field.

C.1 The Pre-Levitical Priest-King#

Genesis 14:18–20

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

Melchizedek appears before Sinai and before the Levitical priesthood is established. The text presents him simultaneously as king and priest. Psalm 110 later takes that earlier figure and places the priestly order beside David’s Lord at YHWH’s right hand.

Psalm 110:1, 4

The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

C.2 Judah and Another Priesthood#

Hebrews 7:13–17

For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Hebrews does not hide the tribal problem. It names it. Jesus comes from Judah, a tribe for which Moses gave no altar-priesthood. The answer is not an undocumented transfer of Levi’s office to Judah. The answer is the scriptural testimony to “another priest” and another order, already sworn in Psalm 110.

Hebrews 7:20–25

And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

(For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

The contrast turns on continuity. Aaronic priests multiply because death ends each ordinary tenure. The Son’s priesthood is described as unchangeable because He continues. This becomes important when the inheritance argument reaches death and resurrection: the Priest through whom the inheritance is opened is also the living Priest who remains.

C.3 The Refuge Law — Priesthood, Death, and Return to Possession#

Numbers 35:25, 28

And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.

Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.

The manslayer remains alive, but ordinary possession is interrupted. The statute ties return to the death of the high priest. Joshua 20 preserves the same refuge structure in Israel’s settlement. The legal point needed by the present study is narrow and concrete: priestly death stands at the release point between protected exile and return to possession.

C.4 Christ’s Death and the Promise of Eternal Inheritance#

Hebrews 9:11–15

But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

Hebrews 9:15 is sufficient for the central inheritance claim. The text itself joins Christ as Mediator, His death, redemption, and the called receiving the promise of eternal inheritance. The study therefore does not require Hebrews 9:16–17 to carry a debated testament/testator interpretation in order to establish the legal movement.

C.5 The Living Heir and Everlasting Priest#

Hebrews 1:1–2

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Romans 8:15–18

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

The inheritance is therefore gathered around the Son without becoming detached property. The Son is appointed Heir of all things. Those received as children become heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. Hebrews 7 has already said that this same Priest “continueth ever” and “ever liveth.” The study can therefore state the convergence without depending on the disputed testamentary reading: death opens the promised eternal inheritance; resurrection leaves the heirs with the living Son, appointed Heir and everlasting Priest.

C.6 Preserved Scripture Reference Bank#

The following references are retained as part of the priesthood / death / inheritance evidence bank even where the main narrative or this exhibit quotes only the controlling passages:

Genesis 14:18–20; Psalm 110:1–4; Numbers 35:9–12, 25, 28; Joshua 20:1–9; Hebrews 1:1–2; Hebrews 4:14–16; Hebrews 5:5–10; Hebrews 6:13–20; Hebrews 7:1–28; Hebrews 8:1–6; Hebrews 9:11–17; Hebrews 10:19–22; Romans 8:15–18, 29–30; Ephesians 1:11–14; Colossians 1:12–14; 1 Peter 1:3–5; Revelation 20:6; Revelation 21:6–7.

Exhibit D — Prior-Study Provenance Index#

The standalone study is designed to be understood without any other document. This exhibit serves a different purpose: it preserves where the deeper prior development already exists. When a condensed bridge in the study later needs to be expanded, checked, or recovered, the locator below identifies the earlier study, packet or part, section or exhibit, and page where that evidence was developed at greater length.

D.1 Provenance Method#

Scripture remains the controlling evidence. Earlier studies are not substitutes for biblical proof. Their function here is provenance: they show where lexical work, legal sequencing, narrative development, or a larger canonical connection was previously established. Where a source contains printed line numbers, those line references may be added during final whole-study assembly. Where an older source does not contain printed line numbers, packet / section / exhibit / page is the stable locator; false precision is not introduced.
