11. From “Dwelleth With You” to “Shall Be in You”#

Packet 4 ended with Christ the Living Stone, believers as living stones, and the people of God being built together as a spiritual house. The architecture is corporate. Jesus now gives the inward dimension. The house God builds is not merely a community gathered around His memory. He promises the Spirit as an abiding Presence within His people.

John 14:16–17

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

The movement is easy to miss because the words are so familiar: with you → in you. Israel knew the glory of YHWH dwelling among the people in tabernacle and temple. Ezekiel promised a new heart and God’s Spirit within. Jesus now speaks that promise toward fulfillment in the disciples. The Presence that had been encountered at holy places is not being made ordinary; God is preparing a holy people in whom His Spirit will dwell.

John 14:20

At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

John 14:23

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

This language does not make the believer the source of divine life. Jesus immediately gives the controlling picture in John 15. A branch truly receives life from the vine, truly bears fruit, and truly participates in what the vine supplies; yet the branch never becomes the vine.

John 15:1–8

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

This also returns us to the original creation purpose. Humanity was made to receive blessing, become fruitful, and exercise delegated dominion under God. John 15 shows how restored fruitfulness works: not autonomous human capacity, but derived life through abiding in the Son. The movement from creation to restoration is therefore not self-rule recovered, but true vocation restored beneath the Source.

12. “I in Them” — Formation, Image, and Bestowed Glory#

John 14 establishes indwelling; John 15 establishes abiding life. John 17 reveals the purpose toward which that indwelling moves. Jesus does not pray merely that future believers will agree with one another or occupy the same institution. He prays that those who believe through the apostolic witness will be brought into a real communion patterned after the unity of Father and Son, and He speaks explicitly of glory given.

John 17:20–23

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

The language is stronger than external association. They in Us. I in them. Glory given. Yet the persons do not collapse. The Father remains Father; the Son remains Son; the believers remain those who believe through the witness. Communion is real precisely because relationship remains real.

The apostles describe this shared life with formation language. The Spirit is not merely a pledge that something external will be handed over later. God is shaping the heirs toward the likeness of the Son.

Romans 8:29–30

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

2 Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

1 John 3:1–2

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

These passages keep present reality and future completion together. Believers are children now. The Spirit is at work now. Conformity is the stated purpose now. Yet John says plainly that the completed condition has not yet appeared. Resurrection and final glorification are not swallowed by present experience.

This is where the word meros returns in a different but related way. Paul describes the body growing under Christ the Head as each part works in its appointed measure. The restored portion is therefore not merely an isolated personal possession. In Christ, the person becomes an appointed part within a living body whose life and growth remain under the Head.

Ephesians 4:15–16

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

The first section of this study began with humanity made in God’s image for fruitful life and delegated rule. The loop is now tightening. The true Image is the Son; the Spirit conforms the children toward His image; John ties future likeness to seeing Him; and the final vision will place those servants before His Face. Before Revelation completes the loop, the Torah gives one more priestly witness: the shining Face and the placed Name.

13. The Face, the Name, and the Priestly Blessing#

The Aaronic blessing is often read as a beautiful closing benediction. In this study it carries more weight. It is spoken by priests over the covenant people, and it joins keeping, the shining Face, grace, peace, and the placement of YHWH’s Name. The blessing does not merely ask God to give things while remaining distant. It turns the people toward His own Presence and identity.

Numbers 6:24–27

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.

The Face is not an abstraction in later Scripture. Paul places the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:6

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Now the earlier lines begin to stack. Genesis began with image. Numbers 6 placed the Name upon the people and invoked the shining Face. John 14 promised indwelling. John 17 spoke of the Name, indwelling, love, unity, and glory. Paul speaks of transformation toward the image of the Son. The final vision does not abandon those lines. It gathers them.

Revelation 22:4

And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

This verse will return in Packet 6 for a different focal purpose, when Revelation 20–22 closes the whole study. Here the focus is narrower: the priestly blessing has reached permanent condition. The Face once invoked is seen. The Name once placed is borne. What was spoken over a vulnerable people within a threatened creation becomes the settled condition of the servants before God and the Lamb.

This does not make the servants the owners of the Name, the source of the glory, or the sovereigns of the throne. The Name remains His Name. The light remains God-given. The throne remains the throne of God and of the Lamb. Yet what God gives is real: His servants bear His Name, see His Face, receive His light, serve Him, and reign beneath His rule.

This packet is fully readable on its own. The references below preserve the larger prior-study trail behind compressed connections so the broader evidence can be recovered when needed.

ISRAEL — THE WOUNDED-AND-PREVAILING NAME — Master Revision, Packet 8, especially §1 “From the Future Crown to the Present Walk,” p. 3; §§16–17 “Living Stones and the Dwelling of God” and “The Prayer over the True Israel,” p. 11; and Exhibit E36 “Living Stones, John 17, Love, the Tree of Life, and Final Dwelling,” p. 18. Preserves the abiding-under-the-Son guardrail, living-stone habitation, John 17 communion/shared glory, and present-formation/future-completion distinction.

GRACE TO GLORIFICATION — PART SIX: The Name Made Known — especially §1 “The Master Spine: Grace Preserves Life for God’s Ending,” p. 2, and §9 “Face Seen, Name Borne, and the Final Confession,” p. 10. Preserves Numbers 6 as priestly Face/Name blessing and Revelation 22 as its final Face-seen/Name-borne completion.

MEROS: The Lost Portion — formal study planning and later body-development material surrounding Ephesians 4:16 and the corporate meros theme. Preserves the distinction between personal portion and the believer as an appointed part functioning beneath Christ the Head; the present study uses that connection briefly rather than reproducing the larger Meros body argument.
