THE END OF THE WAY

Where the Two Trained Ways Lead — and Why the Servants of God Serve and Reign

A Scripture Study of Two Ways, Two Masters, the End of the Serpent, the Gift of Life, Restored Image-Bearing, and the Throne of God and of the Lamb

1. Where the Two Trained Ways Lead#

Packet 11 ended with a question that can no longer be answered only at a single gate: Where do the two trained ways finally lead? Repetition matters because a way has a direction, and a direction has an end.

Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

The sentence is severe because the way does not have to feel wicked while it is being walked. It can seem right. The person may possess reasons, explanations, grievances, counsel, desire, apparent wisdom, and even religious language. Yet Scripture refuses to let present plausibility settle the question. It asks about the end.

WAY → PRACTICE → FORMATION → MASTER → FRUIT → END

2. A Way Which Seemeth Right#

Proverbs 16:25 “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

Proverbs repeats the warning almost word for word. The repetition matters. Human judgment can become sincere without becoming true. A road can be internally coherent while its destination exposes the original error.

This is why the earlier gates mattered. Deprived → Defrauded → Delayed can make another road appear necessary. Recast → Vilify → Justify → Self-authorize can make it appear moral. See → Desire → Take can make it feel immediate and practical. Repetition can then make the chosen road feel normal.

By the time the traveler says, “This is simply who I am,” the road may have been practiced so long that its earlier crossings are difficult to remember. Proverbs therefore points beyond present feeling to the destination.

3. Clean in His Own Eyes — The LORD Weigheth#

Proverbs 16:2 “All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.”

The final packet returns to one of the governing discoveries from Cain. The self can render a favorable judgment upon itself: clean in his own eyes. But another Measure remains.

MY EYES MAY DECLARE CLEAN ≠ THE LORD’S WEIGHING

MEG-self is therefore not merely open rebellion. It is the attempt to make the creature’s valuation final. The danger becomes especially deep when the person no longer experiences the way as rebellion at all. The internal court has acquitted itself.

4. Two Masters, Two Ends — Wages and Gift#

Romans 6:20–23 “For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Paul gives the entire study in miniature: master → service → fruit → end. Sin has a service and a wage. God has a service, holy fruit, and a gift.

SIN → SERVICE → FRUIT OF SHAME → WAGES: DEATH

GOD → SERVICE → FRUIT UNTO HOLINESS → GIFT: ETERNAL LIFE

The contrast between wages and gift is especially important after the study of mammon. Sin’s economy pays the end its service earns. Eternal life is not the successful wage of autonomous self-rule. It is the gift of God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

5. The Counterfeit End — Enslavement, Extraction, Exile#

Across the earlier packets, the counterfeit repeatedly promised enlargement: wisdom, relief, vindication, possession, freedom, security, status, control. Yet the biblical trajectory repeatedly moved the other direction.

COUNTERFEIT MEG → ENSLAVEMENT → EXTRACTION → EXILE

Enslavement: the thing presented as freedom becomes a master. Extraction: the false master consumes service, loyalty, truth, relationships, bodies, treasure, or worship for its own end. Exile: the road moves away from life with the true Source — from Eden, from fellowship, from inheritance, from truthful dwelling.

The counterfeit MEG promises elevation but produces subjection. It promises autonomy but changes masters. It promises possession but ends in dispossession.

6. The Thief and the Shepherd#

John 10:10–11, 14–15 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.”

Jesus places two kinds of rule beside one another. One steals, kills, and destroys. The other comes that the sheep might have life and then gives Himself for them.

THIEF: STEAL → KILL → DESTROY

SHEPHERD: KNOW → GIVE HIMSELF → LIFE

This is the moral difference between counterfeit and true authority. Counterfeit rule converts the other into yield. The Shepherd’s authority moves outward in self-giving love.

7. The Life Is Given — It Is Not Stolen From the Shepherd#

John 10:17–18 “Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”

The language of take now turns in a remarkable direction. Men will arrest Jesus. Wicked hands will crucify Him. Yet Jesus refuses to let the visible taking define the deeper action: “No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself.”

The faithful Son is not overcome by the counselor, the crowd, the rulers, or death. He gives Himself inside the Father’s command. His will is not erased; it is perfectly ordered toward the Father’s purpose.

COMMAND RECEIVED → LIFE LAID DOWN → LIFE TAKEN AGAIN

8. False Liberty Still Ends in Bondage#

2 Peter 2:18–19 “For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.”

The sales pitch and the destination are opposites: promise liberty → allure desire → overcome → bondage.

This is the MEG-self illusion stated with unusual clarity. The person is invited to become freer by loosening restraint, but the loosening produces another mastery. Autonomy was never the end. Transfer of allegiance was.

9. Eden Reopened — The First Way Began With a Voice#

Genesis 3:6 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

Genesis 3:22–24 “And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”

The first great road of self-rule begins with another voice, passes through altered judgment, reaches the hand, and ends outside the garden. The promised enlargement ends in guarded access to the tree of life.

VOICE → ALTERED TOV → DESIRE → TAKE → DEATH / EXILE

The final chapters of Scripture will deliberately return to the same categories: tree, life, curse, face, name, river, dwelling, service, and reign. The end does not abandon Eden. It answers Eden.

10. Revelation Names the Serpent#

Revelation 12:7–9 “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Genesis names the serpent. Revelation supplies the inspired identity key: the great dragon, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan. The counselor at the first tree belongs to the same adversarial identity finally exposed in the apocalypse.

The adjective matters: “which deceiveth the whole world.” The conflict that began with alternate counsel is finally unveiled at global scale.

11. The Counselor Becomes the Accuser#

Revelation 12:10 “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

The study began with a counselor supplying an accusation about God: the Giver is withholding; the boundary is suspicious; the appointed way is unnecessary. Revelation now names the same adversarial work from the other side: the accuser.

The accusation changes direction but not character. In Eden, God is morally recast before the creature. In Revelation, the brethren are accused before God. The false counselor’s kingdom operates by distorted judgment, accusation, and alienation.

FALSE COUNSEL → DISTORTED JUDGMENT → ACCUSATION → ALIENATION

12. The Lamb Answers the Accuser#

Revelation 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”

The saints do not answer the accuser by becoming independent magistrates who pronounce themselves clean. They overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.

The answer to accusation is therefore not stronger MEG-self. It is the faithful work of Another received and confessed. The Lamb’s blood answers the charge; the witness speaks in agreement with what God has done.

13. The Last Enemy — Death#

1 Corinthians 15:24–26, 28 “Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.”

Paul’s “end” is not the triumph of autonomous will. It is the completion of ordered kingdom. The Son reigns until every enemy is beneath His feet. Death itself is destroyed. Then the mediatorial kingdom reaches its appointed completion under the Father.

This is a profound answer to the will question. The faithful Son’s victory never becomes the serpent’s fantasy of independent self-exaltation. His reign fulfills the Father’s purpose.

14. The Deceiver Is Finally Removed#

Revelation 20:1–3, 10 “And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

The one who offered creaturely elevation does not end enthroned. The deceiver is laid hold on, bound, cast down, shut up, and finally removed from the renewed order.

OLD SERPENT → DECEIVER → BOUND → REMOVED

The counterfeit master cannot finally preserve his stolen jurisdiction. The entire counsel-system that promised self-rule reaches judgment.

15. The Counterfeit Throne Has an End#

The negative road can now be read from first counsel to final end:

ALTERNATE COUNSEL → DEPRIVED → DEFRAUDED → DELAYED → RECAST → VILIFY → JUSTIFY → SELF-AUTHORIZE → SEE → DESIRE → TAKE → MEG-SELF ILLUSION → FALSE MASTER → PRACTICED BONDAGE → DEATH

The serpent’s offer was not merely one forbidden fruit. It was a rival government of interpretation: you may decide the good for yourself, obtain it by your own means, and treat the boundary as evidence against the Giver.

Revelation shows the end of that kingdom. The accuser is cast down. The deceiver is removed. Death is destroyed. The old way does not receive an eternal rival throne beside God.

16. True MEG — Give, Lead, Dwell, Inheritance, Reign#

Revelation 7:17 “For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”

Revelation 21:3, 6–7 “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”

Revelation 22:5 “And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.”

TRUE MEG → GIVE → LEAD → DWELL → INHERITANCE → REIGN

This is the opposite kingdom. The throne does not merely demand. It gives. The Lamb leads. God dwells with His people. The overcomer inherits. The servants reign.

17. “I Will Give... Freely” — The Giver Vindicated#

Revelation 21:6 “And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.”

The serpent’s first great accusation made the Giver appear to be a malicious Withholder. The end of Scripture places the opposite declaration on the throne:

I WILL GIVE ... FREELY

The One who is the beginning and the end is still the Giver at the end. The entire story between Eden and Revelation has shown what that gift cost: promise, covenant, faithful Son, blood, resurrection, priestly mediation, Spirit, endurance, and final inheritance.

The boundary in Eden was not proof that God hated life or wisdom for His image-bearers. Revelation ends with God openly giving the water of life and bringing His people into face-to-face dwelling.

18. The First Taking and the Closing Invitation#

Genesis 3:6 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

Revelation 22:17 “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”

The contrast is almost impossible to miss.

EDEN: GOD FORBIDS → ALTERNATE COUNSEL → CREATURE TAKES

REVELATION: GOD INVITES → SPIRIT AND BRIDE SAY COME → THIRSTY PERSON TAKES FREELY

The problem was never that the physical idea of taking is intrinsically sinful. The question was always jurisdiction: Was the thing given? Was the means authorized? Was the boundary honored? Who defined the good?

19. “Whosoever Will” — Will, Come, Take, Freely#

Revelation 22:17 also brings the study of will to its final invitation. The Greek phrase behind “whosoever will” uses a form of thelō — to will, desire, or wish. The imperative translated “let him take” is from lambanō, a broad verb used for taking or receiving. The adverb dōrean carries the sense of freely, gratuitously, without payment.

WILL / DESIRE → COME → TAKE / RECEIVE → FREELY

The human will has not been erased. Neither has it become Magistrate. It responds to an invitation authored by the true Giver. This is willing MEI at the end of the Bible: the creature desires, comes, and receives because the Source has opened the gift.

That is very different from Edenic MEG-self. In Eden the self authorizes acquisition against the boundary. In Revelation the willing person acts inside the invitation.

20. The Tabernacle of God Is With Men#

Revelation 21:1–5 “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”

The counterfeit way ended in hiding and exile. The true way ends in dwelling.

EDEN: HIDING / EXILE → REVELATION: GOD DWELLS WITH MEN

The words “true and faithful” matter after a study of false counsel. The last world is not created by trusting a lie. It is established by the One whose words can be written because they are true and faithful.

21. “He That Overcometh Shall Inherit All Things”#

Revelation 21:6–7 “And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”

Inheritance is not seizure. It is received according to relationship and promise. The overcomer does not storm the throne and force recognition. God says: I will give. He shall inherit. I will be his God. He shall be my son.

GIVER → SONSHIP → INHERITANCE

This resolves one of the deepest tensions in the entire study. Waiting under promise does not mean the image-bearer will remain permanently empty. The faithful road has an inheritance at its end.

22. No Temple — God and the Lamb Are the Temple#

Revelation 21:22–25 “And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.”

The end is not a humanity finally detached from God. The final city is ordered around the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb. Their presence is not an obstacle to human glory; it is the light in which the nations walk and the kings bring their glory.

MEG-self assumes that dependence diminishes the creature. Revelation shows the opposite. Created glory is not annihilated. It is brought into the city under the light of God and the Lamb.

23. The River From the Throne#

Revelation 22:1 “And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.”

The water does not originate in the servants. It proceeds out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. The final geography therefore settles the Source question visually.

THRONE → RIVER OF LIFE

The throne is not dry authority. The throne is the headwater of life. Government and gift are not enemies in God. The same throne from which rightful rule proceeds is the throne from which life proceeds.

24. The Tree of Life and the Healing of the Nations#

Revelation 22:2 “In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”

The tree that became inaccessible after Eden is now present beside the river of life. And its fruitfulness is not fruit unto self. The leaves are for the healing of the nations.

This gives a final contrast with extraction. Counterfeit rule asks what the world can produce for the ruler. The final tree bears fruit and healing outward.

TRUE FRUITFULNESS → LIFE → HEALING OF THE NATIONS

25. No More Curse — The Exile Is Over#

Revelation 22:3–4 “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.”

Genesis 3 ended with curse, hiding, and guarded access. Revelation answers each wound:

CURSE → NO MORE CURSE

HIDING → THEY SHALL SEE HIS FACE

EXILE → THE THRONE DWELLS AMONG THEM

The final answer to Eden is not that the creature successfully escaped God’s authority. It is that the breach is healed and life beneath God’s authority becomes face-to-face fellowship.

26. “His Servants Shall Serve Him” — MEI Is Not Erased#

Revelation 22:3 “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:”

This sentence should stop any attempt to imagine salvation as eventual autonomy. At the very point where curse is gone and the throne is present, Revelation still calls them:

HIS SERVANTS

And what do they do?

THEY SERVE HIM

The ministerial posture is not a temporary humiliation to be discarded once the creature becomes mature. Service beneath the true King belongs to the perfected order.

Yet this service is not the bondage of corruption. It is the service of people who see His face, bear His name, drink from His river, live without curse, and stand in His light.

27. “They Shall Reign” — Image-Bearing Is Fulfilled#

Revelation 22:5 “And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.”

Genesis 1:26–28 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

The servants are not reduced to inert objects. They reign. Genesis began with image-bearing and delegated dominion; Revelation ends with servants reigning forever under God and the Lamb.

SERVE + REIGN

That is the resolution of the entire MEG/MEI problem. The creature does not become the Source, Measure, or final Authority. Yet neither is creaturely agency erased. Image-bearing reaches mature expression as real rule beneath the true King.

28. Rule Independently or Rule Representatively#

Revelation 5:9–10 “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”

The biblical alternative was never:

RULE OR SERVE

It was:

RULE INDEPENDENTLY OR RULE REPRESENTATIVELY

The Lamb redeems a people to God, makes them kings and priests, and they reign. Revelation 22 then says the same people are servants who serve and reign.

The contradiction disappears once the jurisdiction is clear. Counterfeit MEG says, “To rule, I must cease being subject.” Restored image-bearing says, “Because I am rightly subject to the King, I can finally exercise delegated rule without making myself the source.”

29. Face, Name, and Light — The Old Hiding Is Gone#

Revelation 22:4–5 “And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.”

Three final images gather earlier wounds.

Face: Adam hid. The servants now see His face. Name: self-rule tried to construct identity from the creature outward; the servants bear His name. Light: the biblical story repeatedly contrasts darkness with the light God gives; in the final city the Lord God giveth them light.

NO HIDING → HIS FACE

NO SELF-AUTHORED FINAL IDENTITY → HIS NAME

NO NIGHT → GOD GIVES LIGHT

The final world is not the triumph of the creature’s independence. It is the triumph of unhindered communion with the true Source.

30. The Whole Study in One String#

The entire negative architecture can now be seen from the first alternate word to the final end:

ALTERNATE COUNSEL → DEPRIVED → DEFRAUDED → DELAYED → GRIEVANCE → RECAST → VILIFY → JUSTIFY → SELF-AUTHORIZE → FLESH / EYES / PRIDE → SEE → DESIRE → TAKE → MEG-SELF → ANOTHER MASTER → REPEATED YIELDING → HARDENED / TRAINED BONDAGE → DEATH

And the faithful counter-way can be seen from the Word of the Giver to the final throne:

GOD SPEAKS / PROMISES → FAITH → CONTENTMENT → CONFIDENCE → CONTINUANCE → TRUTH TESTED → SPIRIT-LED SELF-CONTROL → SEE → DESIRE → RECEIVE → WILLING SERVICE → TRAINED DISCERNMENT → FRUIT UNTO HOLINESS → INHERITANCE → FACE / NAME / LIGHT → SERVE AND REIGN

The two strings are not mechanical algorithms. Scripture is describing relationships, judgments, loves, practices, and governments. Faith, hope, and love animate the faithful way. The Spirit helps. Grace teaches. The Word corrects. Exhortation speaks to conscience. The image-bearer remains responsible and genuinely responsive.

31. Gate Check at the End of the Way#

A final examination can now ask not merely, “Is this act allowed?” but, “What way am I walking, what master is being strengthened, and what end does this road resemble?”

• Has a real lack become Deprived — proof in my mind that I should already possess something?

• Has a boundary, correction, or disappointment become Defrauded — proof that the Giver or another authority is against me?

• Has delay become permission to leave the appointed way?

• Have I recast another person until their supposed wrong now authorizes mine?

• What is my desire teaching me to make cheap in order to obtain what I want?

• Am I trying to take what has not been given, or faithfully receiving what God has opened?

• What counsel am I practicing until it feels like my own voice?

• What repeated act is training my senses — toward discernment, or toward covetousness?

• Does my use of authority give, lead, heal, and serve, or extract, pressure, and consume?

• Am I seeking the person, or merely what the person can produce for me?

• Do I want freedom from sin so that I can belong to the true King, or freedom from every master so that self can become king?

• Does the road I am choosing look more like steal / kill / destroy, or like give / lead / dwell / inheritance / reign?

32. The End of the Way — Final Declaration#

Revelation 22:1–5, 17 “And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”

The study began with a creature listening to another voice beside a tree. It ends with the Spirit and the bride saying, Come, beside the river and tree of life.

It began with a boundary being recast as deprivation. It ends with the Giver saying, I will give... freely.

It began with the hand taking against the word of God. It ends with the thirsty person invited to take because the Giver has opened the gift.

It began with the promise that self-rule would elevate the creature. It ends with the old serpent removed and the servants of God doing what the serpent taught the creature to despise: serving.

And then comes the surprise:

THE SERVANTS SERVE — AND THE SERVANTS REIGN

The image-bearer does not become God. The image-bearer becomes what the image was for: a willing servant, a child and heir, a priestly witness, a fruitful steward, and a ruler beneath the throne of God and of the Lamb.

The final answer to MEG-self is therefore not the destruction of will, desire, judgment, agency, or dominion. It is their restoration beneath the true Source, Measure, and Authority.

I RECEIVE; YOU GIVE. I FOLLOW; YOU LEAD.

RULE REPRESENTATIVELY — NOT INDEPENDENTLY.

SERVE — AND REIGN.

The way that seemed right ended in death. The Way of the faithful Giver ends where Scripture always intended life to end: with God dwelling with His people, the Lamb in the throne, the river flowing, the Tree of Life bearing fruit, the nations healed, the curse gone, the face seen, the Name borne, the servants serving, and the image-bearers reigning forever and ever.
