Grace to Glorification
Glorification: Face Seen, Name Borne, Curse Gone
Part Nine | The Priestly Blessing Reaches Its Appointed Fullness
Part Eight placed daily grace inside its proper order: the Father, the Name, the kingdom, the will of God, daily bread, forgiveness, deliverance, and glory. Part Nine now turns to the appointed end of the whole movement.
The priestly blessing of Numbers 6 is not a temporary religious wish. It blesses toward a destination. The Face that shines, the peace that is given, and the Name placed upon the people all move toward the final dwelling of God with man.
1. Numbers 6 Blesses Toward an End#
Numbers 6 has been the center of the study from the beginning. The blessing is spoken in the wilderness, through the priest, over a people still on the way. Yet the words already point beyond the wilderness.
The Face shines, but the Face is not yet fully seen. The Name is placed, but the people do not yet bear it in final glory. Peace is spoken, but the curse is not yet removed. Grace is given within the journey, but the journey is not yet complete.
The blessing therefore creates expectation. If YHWH blesses, keeps, shines His Face, gives peace, and places His Name, where is the blessing carrying the people? Scripture answers by moving from image to glory, from curse to new creation, from priestly word to final dwelling.
2. The Image and the Glory#
The story began with humanity made in the image of God. Man was made to live before God, receive His word, exercise dominion under Him, and fill the earth with faithful representation.
The fall did not erase God's purpose, but it wounded the image and brought shame, death, curse, and exile. Humanity did not merely lose comfort. Humanity fell short of glory.
Grace answers that loss. It is not merely God improving circumstances inside a fallen order. Grace must carry the fallen image toward the glory for which humanity was made.
The movement is not unfinished mercy. It is mercy carrying the redeemed toward conformity to the Son and final glory. The image is not merely repaired at the surface. It is carried into its appointed completion in Christ.
3. The Face of Jesus Christ#
Numbers 6 speaks of the Face of YHWH shining. The Psalms plead for that Face to shine so that salvation may come. Jacob sees God face to face and lives. The New Testament then identifies the place where the glory of God is known with final clarity: the face of Jesus Christ.
This is not a forced connection between every use of light and every use of face. Paul himself brings light, knowledge, glory, God, and the face of Jesus Christ together. The shining Face of Numbers 6 finds its Christ-facing clarity in the Son.
The final hope is not merely to know about God from a distance. It is to see Him and be made like Him.
Grace is carrying the people toward sight, likeness, and glory. The Face that shines in blessing becomes the Face seen by the servants of God.
4. The Dwelling of God with Man#
Revelation shows the blessing arriving at its destination. The hope is not escape from creation. The dwelling of God is with man. The curse, death, crying, and pain that entered the story through sin are answered by the presence of God.
The God who said to Moses, 'Certainly I will be with thee,' brings His people to the final form of that promise: God Himself with them, dwelling with them, wiping away tears, removing death, and making all things new.
The temple line reaches fulfillment because God and the Lamb are present. The light line reaches fulfillment because the glory of God lightens the city, and the Lamb is its light. The nations line reaches fulfillment because the nations of them which are saved walk in that light.
5. Face Seen, Name Borne, Curse Gone#
The clearest return to Numbers 6 comes in Revelation 22. The words of the priestly blessing now appear in completed form: no curse, the throne of God and the Lamb, His servants serving, His Face seen, His Name in their foreheads, and reign forever.
The curse is gone. The throne is present. The servants serve. The Face is seen. The Name is borne. The light is given. The reign is forever.
This is the appointed fullness of the priestly blessing. What was spoken over the people in the wilderness becomes the condition of the redeemed in glory.
6. Numbers 6 Completed#
The whole movement can now be seen in return.
Adam was made in the image of God, but the fallen image came short of glory. Grace preserved the promise, covered shame, provided atonement, formed a people, gave the Spirit, restored representation, and carried the redeemed toward glorification.
In Revelation, the image-bearing vocation is not abandoned. It is glorified. The servants of God see His Face, bear His Name, serve Him, and reign forever. The life once threatened by sin is now beyond the reach of curse and death.
The priestly word spoken over Israel reaches its final fullness in the Lamb's redeemed people, dwelling with God, seeing His Face, bearing His Name, and reigning in life.
